Our Pastor

The Rev. Dr. Carol Marie Garrett was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and grew up in Rochester, NY. She has earned an Associate Degree in Accounting, Rochester, NY; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY; and Masters of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Crozier Divinity School in Rochester, NY. This has assisted her in nothing less than perfection when it comes to doing God’s Business. Because of her expertise and mannerism, she was given the opportunity to serve as Vice-President/ Secretary of the Black Student Caucus at Colgate Rochester Crozier Divinity School and has served on the Women Studies Advisory Board at Colgate Rochester Crozier Divinity School. In May 2017, she completed her Doctoral degree in Transformative Leadership with a Concentration in Prophetic Preaching at her alumni school, Colgate Rochester Crozier Divinity School. Her dissertation is entitled, “Can These Bones Live? Ezekiel 37:1-14, The Fabric of Discontent Between Church and Community: A Prophetic Message.” On April 1, 2018, she began serving as the new pastor of The Historic Parsells Church in Rochester NY and was officially installed on May 20, 2018, which was Pentecost Sunday. Pastor Carol, also known as Rev. C. by much of the congregation, is the first African-American woman to serve as Pastor of the Parsells Church, which has been in the community since 1895. Rev. Carol has served on the Executive Board of the American Baptist Churches of the Rochester/ Genesee Region. She is employed full time with Monroe County Department of Social Services, working to bring individuals to become self-sufficient. Rev. C. also teaches in the Year One Program as an Adjunct Instructor at Rochester Institute of Technology. She has taught Critical Thinking Skills and Strategies for Success to adults in an academic perspective. Rev. C. has been honored to teach Christian Education to both adults and youth providing outreach discipleship and teaching others how to become effective followers of Christ. Rev. C. has an ongoing interest in her community and will continue to advocate for the Portland Avenue area in Rochester.
