Introduction

The Historic Parsells Church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA, which is based in Valley Forge, PA. First and foremost, we believe in the Trinity: God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Below are some basic tenets which describe who we are.

Baptist Distinctives

What Makes A Church “Baptist”? B eliever’s   Baptism   (Those   who   publicly   profess   their   faith   in   Jesus   Christ   as   Lord   and   Savior   are   baptized by immersion) A uthority   of   the   Scriptures   (The   Bible   shows   the   coming   of   Jesus   as   Savior   and   serves   as   our   guide   for Christian living) P riesthood   of   All   Believers   (Every   Christian   is   called   to   love   and   serve   God,   and   to   exercise   his   or   her gifts in the life of the church; ministry is carried out by both clergy and laity) T wo   Ordinances   (There   are   two   ordinances   of   the   church:   Baptism   and   the   Lord’s   Supper,   also   called Communion) I ndependence   of   the   Local   Church   (Each   congregation   is   autonomous,   selecting   its   own   leadership   and its own mission priorities) S eparation   of   Church   and   State   (Baptists   believe   in   religious   liberty   or   “soul   freedom”   which   means   each person   may   choose   and   practice   religion   freely   without   physical,   economic,   or   political   influence   from   others.
